The challenge
Industrial product manufacturers operate in an environment where engineering precision, commercial speed and product knowledge must coexist.
Selecting pumping equipment is not simply a matter of choosing a product from a catalog. Engineers and sales teams work with operating conditions, equipment curves, efficiency, power requirements, configuration constraints and application-specific performance requirements. At the same time, the results must flow into customer-facing applications, quotations, documentation and downstream enterprise systems.
When calculation logic is tightly coupled to individual applications, every new digital experience becomes expensive. When commercial workflows are disconnected from engineering selection, users duplicate work and introduce avoidable errors.
Our approach
- 01
Treat engineering logic as a reusable product capability
Rather than reproduce complex domain calculations in multiple applications, we worked with engineering services and APIs capable of supporting different interfaces and workflows. This helped separate the technical logic of product selection from the presentation and business processes around it.
- 02
Connect engineering parameters to equipment configurations
The platform needed to handle domain-specific parameters including flow, head, equipment series, pump size, motor selection and associated performance characteristics. Engineering results could then become inputs to additional workflows rather than isolated outputs.
- 03
Bridge engineering and commercial processes
Equipment selection is part of a broader customer journey involving configuration, product information, quotations and submittals. Our architectural work connected these concerns, recognizing that engineering accuracy must survive the transition into commercial and operational systems.
- 04
Support the evolution of digital products
Reusable engineering capabilities provide a foundation for web applications, customer portals, sales tools, guided workflows and future intelligent interfaces. The architecture creates space for product evolution without requiring the underlying engineering logic to be rebuilt for every use case.
The outcome
The work supported digital engineering and equipment-selection capabilities, making complex calculation and product-configuration functionality available through software applications and integration interfaces.
It provided a foundation for improving engineering and sales workflows and extending functionality across different digital experiences.
